This is my first Florida brewery review! After reviewing plenty of New Jersey and Pennsylvania beers for our other blog, it’s time to start focusing on what’s going on in the Sunshine State!
Sarasota is Circus City due to the presence of the Ringling estate and museum, and what better name for one of the biggest breweries in town than Big Top Brewing? It’s one of the beers I could buy in the stores, so of course I wanted to visit their location. It’s located near the Fruitville Rd exit off I-75, has plenty of space, and a good menu of bar-type food to go with your flights or pints.
Here are the beers I had the pleasure to try in the spring of 2021::
- Circus City IPA: The flagship IPA, a full-bodied english-style brew at 6.8%, which is still easy to drink on a hot day.
- Trapeze Monk: This is light and refreshing, the perfect beer for a day at the beach, a Belgian-style wheat ale of 5.1%.
- Wellyz: It’s a lager with a bit of hoppiness, feeling stronger than its 4.8% ABV.
- Hazy Highwire: The heaviest I tried at Big Top, it’s a New England IPA of 7.3% that I really enjoyed.

I’m glad to find craft beers in regular stores, and there are many Big Top beers available around town. I’m looking forward to a new visit to try more of their beers and, of course, their food.
